PageRank Explained. By Cyberlaunch.Net
Google has developed a very effective process to determine the value of websites within the internet. This system is called PageRank.
PageRank is is a numerical system between 0 and 10. 0 being the worst ranking that you can get and 10 the best ranking that you can get.
How you market your business online and the way your website is optimized can either help your ranking or devalue your it.
I like to think of the PageRank system as credits and debits, others see it as a bit of a voting system. If a high ranking site links to your site it adds a bunch of credits to your sites ranking, adding "Credibility". And if you dont have any links or your site is not optimized, than it will take away from your ranking.
When linking your site to other websites make sure that the site that you are linking to has moderate to good PageRank. If you link to a site with a PageRank of zero it can actually penalize you and decrease your rankings.
Part of the PageRank algorithm is to calculate the amount of incoming links to a website. The more links coming in and the higher ranking the websites are that are linking to you, the more credible you appear to the search engines, in turn raising your position within the rankings.
Fast Fact: The maximum amount of PageRank potential that a website can have is increased as more pages are added to it and as more inbound links are linking to it.
Be careful when creating extra pages. If the pages appear identical or very similar, then the search engines will be able to detect what they call "cookie cutter pages" and your site will be penalized.
When creating new pages it is wise to have those pages link to an important page within your website that you wish to raise its overall ranking. The search engine spiders will see that multiple pages are linking to that page and will rank it higher than the other pages within.
This is the first chapter in a 10 part series. Stay tuned for future articles. Until then, over and out!
